DAY 1: SOVERATO
Soverato lies on the edge of the Ionian Sea in the heart of the Gulf of Squillace.
Welcome drinks will be served in this town that spreads over a small area of 7.7 sq km!
You will have a free time, but we will be there to give you suggestions (Hint - The botanical garden of Soverato is a beauty).

DAY 2: PIETRAGRANDE - CAMINIA - SATRIANO
We continue our journey to explore the spectacular views along the Ionian Sea stopping at the coastal towns of Pietragrande and Caminia.
For tasting the finest cheeses of the region, we continue to Caseificio Macri in Satriano. Fiordilatte, Ricotta, Provola Scamorza affumicata, Caciocavallo and Caciotta - get to know your cheeses!

DAY 3: SERRA SAN BRUNO
Serra San Bruno is a charming town of Calabria. The town was founded by Bruno of Cologne of the Carthusian order in the 11th century.
We will tour the monastery together and give you free time to walk among the enormous oak and chestnut trees.
In order for you to feel (and eat) like a local, we organised a cooking class and lunch at a local farm house.

DAY 4: STRONGOLI - SAN GIOVANNI IN FIORE
Today we visit the Ceraudo winery in Strongoli to taste the fine wines of the Calabria region including Ciro, a DOC wine all accompanied by tasting of local cheeses and olive oil.
Afterwards we are taking you for a ride - and not any ride, but a tractor tour of the vineyard.
We also visit the Florence Abbey in the medieval town of San Giovanni in Fiore, built by the Calabrian monk Joachim of Fiore in 12. century!

DAY 5: COSENZA - AMANTEA - BELMONTE CALABRO
Cosenza was once referred to as the Athens of Italy. Our tour guide will take us through the cultural past of this city.
In the afternoon we transfer to the seaside resort town - Amantea, where we will visit the Byzantine castle built in 839.
Later we will get to a pastry factory in Belmonte Calabro and enjoy tasting of dried figs.

DAY 6: SILA GRANDE - ACRI - SIBARI
On our sixth day we make our way to Sila National Park, Italy’s oldest National Park. Our first stop is Arci - referred to as the ‘door of Sila” as it lies at the base of the plateau.
Later we visit the Archaeological museum in Sibari, known to be off the beaten path but quite worth the visit.

DAY 7: LAKE AMPOLLINO - LAKE CECITA - LAKE ARVO
We continue our visit of the Sila National Park with a visit to three beautiful lakes: Lake Ampollino, Lake Cecita and Lake Arvo.
Sila National Park is known for its beautiful routes, exciting landscapes, spectacular plants and a wide variety of animals that roam about.

DAY 8: PIZZO – TROPEA
After breakfast we depart for Pizzo Calabro, a seaport situated on a steep cliff. The first stop is a visit to the Church of Piedigrotta. This is not an ordinary church, since you have to make your way to the beach, as the church is carved in a small cave and according to legend the church was built in the 17th century by shipwrecked fishermen.
Later we make our way to the seaside resort of Tropea. This stretch of the coast line is called the Costa delgi Dei, the “Coast of the Gods” and on a clear day you will enjoy views of the Aeolian islands. You cannot leave Pizzo without tasting the Tartufo di Pizzo - a gelato based version of the truffle. That is why we have reserved a tartufo tasting class at Bar Ercole.
And that’s not all! Today we also experience real Calabrian bread making at Asfalantea, followed by a typical Calabrian lunch.

DAY 9: SCILLA - REGGIO CALABRIA
Scilla is a fishing village, which specialises in catching swordfish (it. pesce spada).
Lunch will be organised at Casato in Scilla, overlooking the beautiful Aeolian Islands (that’s what we call ‘a lunch with a view’).
In the afternoon we visit the famous Bronzes of Riace at the National Museum with a stroll (it. passeggiata) along the promenade described as “the most beautiful kilometre of Italy”!

DAY 10: DEPARTURE - REGGIO CALABRIA
All good things come to an end! Final lunch of this trip will be in a local restaurant in Reggio Calabria.
After saying goodbye to Italian food, we will have a transfer to Reggio Calabria Airport and start our journey back home.

Sydney born Giorgio and Beatrice Favotto, are the operators and owners of Favotto Tours. With Italian migrants as parents, they were raised with a strong appreciation of the Italian culture, travelling to Italy regularly to visit family and relatives.
Giorgio’s heritage derives from a little village of Musano di Trevignano located in the Veneto region. Giorgio has always been a passionate Italian who has dual citizenship of Australia and Italy.
Beatrice’s parents are natives to Borgia, Catanzaro, in the southern region of Calabria.
Over the years Giorgio and Beatrice have blended the infamous rivalry between the North and the South. They have Italy covered.
